Advising new Officiants

Preparations
  • Write and save your script in the cloud: EverNote, Google Docs, etc. Print out a copy just in case. Print in large font with plenty of visual space between paragraphs and on borders
  • Keep it light. The goal is to be a little funny or playful without being at all silly (it’s still a wedding) or derogatory
  • Write down all the actions you, the bride and groom, the wedding party, readers and ring bearers, and the guest should take, like "be seated, "come forward," and "meet us for cocktails!"
  • Practice your script a thousand times! Run through the script and actions with friends of yours - say the words aloud
  • Keep it short (10-12 minutes is great!)
Rehearsal
  • Ask the bride and groom to follow your lead from beginning to end
  • Exude confidence. You're the boss of the service and will handle everything like a professional

    Service
    • Use an iPad to read the ceremony
    • What will be done with the rings? I suggest you keep them before the ceremony or have the ring bearer sitting or standing somewhere he or she can easily hand them over to you
    • What to wear: earrings, necklace, watch. Dress in similar style and color palate to the wedding party so your outfit + accessories complement others
    • When the couple seals their vows with a kiss, STEP ASIDE! Practice this, write it down, etc. It's super awkward to otherwise be like 18" away from the couple in real life and in pictures when they're having that intimate moment
    • Give a gift to the couple

When in doubt, call me! I'm happy to talk through you particulars to ensure you feel totally equipped and confident going into this special occasion!

    xoxo
