In the summer of 2011 my good friend Elizabeth got engaged to a wonderful guy named Alex. Like all excited brides-to-be, she quickly started organizing her bridal party, photographers and caterers, and locations for the ceremony and reception.
Elizabeth and Alex both love Quivey's Grove, so she invited me to lunch there to chat with their wedding event coordinator and see the facilities. Once we sat down to eat Elizabeth started filling me in on some of her reception design ideas and the candidates for her brides maids.
I'll be honest. As I listened and collaborated with her, I hoped because of our friendship that I would be able to play some role in her wedding and that I'd be just as happy to not be a bridesmaid.
She finally got around to popping the question.
Eliz: "Alex and I want to know if you'll marry us."
Bhan: "OOOOH! Which one of you?!?"
I clapped my hands excitedly and of course said it'd be an honor to marry them (to one another).
And so began the process of getting ministry-certified, writing and rewriting and practicing their ceremony, and eventually having the tremendous privilege of marrying Elizabeth and Alex.
